Dayton Triathlon

After lots of driving throughout the weekend, there was only one more drive to make before my race. I woke up at 4:30 in the morning because i had a 2 hr and 15 min drive to get from Portsmouth to Dayton, OH. After a couple close doses, and lots of fog, I made it to Caesar Creek State Park.

When I got there, I really dint feel like I was at a race. I was still trying to wake up, so i got on my bike to try to warm up. Going through the gears to make sure everything was running smoothly, I realized that my rear derailleur had been shifted in the drive, and I was unable to get into my big gears. Luckily they had a bike maintenance tent set up, or I would have been screwed because I suck at fixing bikes.

The man fixed up my bike quick and I was good to go.

The race was a short sprint 750 meter swim, 13 Mile Bike, 5K run

I had a great swim and came out of the water in 2nd place. I knew that I could make up some ground on the bike, but T1 was key, and I ended up making up 20 of the 25 seconds i was down from the swim. By the first mile on the bike I had a 15 second lead. I was feeling pretty good about the pace, and the effort. I hit mile 9, and one of my fellow Sparty Teammates, Bill, caught up to me and went by me. It was a real shock, since I thought i was pulling away from the field. I realized this wasnt going to be a cakewalk.

I got off the bike even with Bill and we ran the first mile and a half shoulder to shoulder, the sun sucking blanketing us with its humid heat. At the turn around, another athlete from Ohio State had caught up to us, and went by us. I tried to stay with him as long as I could, but my fitness level just wasnt there and I got dropped. Never feels good to get dropped, but it made me realize how fat and out of shape I am.

I ended up placing 2nd in the Collegiate Division and 3rd Overall. My hip held up pretty good (it has been bothering me since November, hence the reason I am out of shape) and I look forward to upping my mileage in both the bike and run to get back to where I was last season.

Triple T

Well, this is my very first ever blog, about time eh?

6 months ago I was signed up to compete in the Triple T Ohio, but unfortunately, injuries kept me from competing, they didn't keep me from watching and "heckling" my teammates and friends however.

Everyone showed pure toughness in Portsmouth, OH, surviving the wet muddy course Friday night, hills and sticky heat multiple times Saturday, and sore broken bodies along with scorching heat Sunday to be able to call themselves Triple T Finishers. I am proud of all of you, and look forward to race along side those brave souls who decide to compete next year.

Way to go Sparty Triathletes!
